This 2ltr petrol engine VW Transporter with very low mileage, pulls extremely well with its single Weber carb conversion. All in all a really smooth, powerful and comfortable drive. The engine bay cover has been modified to fit the carb in. You may wish to make a more permanent modification but the current one seems to be gas tight. Its got a twin exhaust system that could do with rubbing down and heat resistant paint applied to smarten it up a bit.
This T25 air-cooled hardtop camper van flew through her last mot in May 2011 with comments like - lovely van theres no sign of any welding been done underneath its spot on!
The van has a rock and roll double bed and gives a truly comfortable sleep. The bed converts to a bench seat and has plenty of storage underneath. There are no rear seat belts fitted but I am told they are easy to fit should you want too.
The table collapses and packs away when not required giving plenty of room in the back for moving about. There is a sink with pumped running water and a 2 burner gas hob with ample storage in the unit for food, plates, pots and pans etc. There are 2 gas bottles supplied with the van, one is continental and other UK.There is a small wardrobe in the back which is really handy. There are curtains all round, and tinted windows, there is a reflective screen to go in the front to stop the sun if required. There is a good detachable Panasonic cd player and radio fitted up front with door speakers which are also good. There is 12V lighting from the leisure battery in the rear.
So here is the work she has had done up to now -
All the brakes have been done i.e. stripped down serviced new pads & shoes fitted 4 new flexible brake hoses (2 front 2 rear) as well as several new sections of brake pipe where ever it was needed, also completely new brake fluid throughout. The front wheels have had new bearing kits fitted and there is also loads of tread left on the tyres.
The engine was serviced roughly nine months ago with new plugs, leads and fan belt. The old points system was replaced with a new Bosch Power spark Electronic Ignition Distributor and a Lucas Sports Ignition Coil. A new seal has been fitted all around the engine bay.
The previous owner fitted heavy duty shocks as he was planning to fit an auto gas system with a doughnut shaped gas tank so instead of normal shocks he fitted heavy duty ones to cope with the intended extra weight.
There are 2 new gas struts fitted to the rear door. Coming with the camper are 2 new heater cable wires which as of yet have not been fitted.
Overall the van is in good condition but it does have some small areas of surface rust and panel rash in the seams and usual areas. There are some chips and areas of paint work that arent perfect but it has taken a small knock to the rear bumper since the photographs were taken.
Too Do List
1- one of the sun roof clips needs replacing
2- The head lining is sagging in places they probably didnt use heat resistant glue! Pretty easy fix just time and a bit of patience to roller the air out when drying.
3- Fitting the heater cables (which are supplied).
4- Treat the small rusty bits while they are just surface rust.
5- Hammer out dent and re-spray rear bumper
Mot expires 12th May 2012 and Road Tax is valid until 31st July 2012
