Specialist Science Tutor is currently taking students for exam tuition enrolment. My regular tuition slots are really of most beneficial to those students pursuing or aiming to pursue a career as a white coat: wannabe medics, dentists, vets, pharmacists, pure scientists, R&D, technologists or engineers, who mostly need a grade A or B in their science subjects. I start to train and mould the students to think like scientists - which is what current academia is looking for.

The number of regular tuition slots I offer are limited and are run on a weekly or fortnightly basis throughout term (1.5 or 2 hrs for A-level, 1.5 hrs for GCSE, and 1 hr for 11+/13+). Extra tutorials are also available during examination season in the period of late Nov-Jan and Easter onwards.

In these periods, I get extremely busy providing extra tuition for my exisiting students and those requiring urgent help, especially as it is common at this point for high performing students to realise the jump from GCSE to A-level and seek help. I try to distribute my time amongst all my students but it is best to try and plan ahead as much as possible. I try to help all students - in fact, the lower their grades, there more determined I am to coach them to improve!

My methods have a very strong focus on examination technique, past papers and exam mark schemes, as well as specifically developing scientific reasoning skills. As it is all about how you tackle, and what you write on the exam papers. This is where in the vast majority of cases, my students rob themselves of marks across the sciences. So we focus on learning how to formulate answers with the key points.

I work one on one with each of my pupils to begin with, and then dependent on the level of examination (especially A-level/GCSE), I introduce relevant members of my support team of science subject specialists, whom I mentor to tutor using my tried and trusted methods. Unless it is chemistry, in which case, I mostly tutor myself.

As part of my services, I also include "academic coaching" - how to impress academics, and what to start doing now from an early start point to hep yourself get into competitive degree courses such as medicine. After all, most applicants to med schools are AAA students!

Fees start from £30 per hour upwards dependent on level, location, and duration. I work an economical system that best fits the pupil's needs and parents' budgets. Payment is pay as you go monthly.

Unlike tuition agencies, I do not pre-set a ridiculously high number of tuition hours - after all, the student should develop! However, I do need to schedule the tuition for the the sake of the momentum of the pupil, and scheduling my time and that of my back up subject specialists.

Most of my tuition is given in the family home of the pupil, at a mutually convenient time to suit the family, However, I was surprised to be asked to tutor several English students abroad online using Skype the last year, and despite my initial reluctance, it was a positive experience, utilising email and pdfs for download. Was also easier to co-ordinate tutorials, and cheaper, as it eliminated the time for travel and transport as well as parking costs.

So whilst I primarily cover London, Greater London and Surrey/Berkshire for one-on-one tuition, Skype has opened further opportunities to a wider UK audience and so remains an option of you are open minded enough to try it. Whichever way you prefer, I have excellent references from both current and ex-pupils and their parents, to whom I have tutored under both sets of circumstances.
