A simple test can be done to determine this... First of all google broadband speed test, carry out 3 tests noting the test result each time, then remove the lower half of your Bt master socket (see picture) and plug your home hub directly into the "test socket" then carry out the broadband speed test a further 3 times, if the test result is higher plugged into the test socket then there is a fault or problem with your internal line (cables, equipment or sockets) drawing down the hi-speed connection.
