  January    
  1st New Year Festival - Edinburgh, Scotland. Things don't look like slowing down in a hurry up there in Edinburgh. The city, and in fact most of the country embrace the New year festival with both hands, as the hangovers go on well into the new year.  
  1st New Years Day Parade - London, England. This year celebrates the 20th Anniversary of the parade. Held in the heart of London and starts at midday.  
  7th - 15th BDO Lakeside World Darts Championships - Surrey. If you fancy watching some "real" athletes battle it out in a beer swilling, cigarette chomping extravaganza, then this is for you.  
  6th - 15th London Boat Show - London, England. The smash hit of the year is back! The 2006 Schroders London Boat Show in association with The Daily Telegraph at ExCeL in London's Docklands from 6th - 15th January offers everything the boating or watersport fan could dream of.  
  14th Russian winter Festival - London, England. In celebration of the Russian Old New Year, this is a free event being held in Trafalgar square.  
  11th Burning of the Clavie - Burghead, Scotland. Held on the old calendar’s New Year, the annual Burning of the Clavie is by far the most impressive and dramatic fire festival in Scotland, and a blessing for pyromaniacs as fire engulfs the town.  
  11th -29th Celtic Connections - Glasgow, Scotland. The Celtic community from all corners of the world converge on Glasgow to rug up and play both contemporary and traditional music to celebrate the 13th birthday of this, the world's largest winter festival of Celtic music and culture.  
  21st -22nd Aviemore Dog Sled Rally - Aviemore, Scotland. The biggest event in the British Husky calender.  
  25th Burns Day - Scotland. An annual festival celebration to commemorate Robert Burns.  
  26th Australia Day!!!! - Worldwide. Any city where there is a high number of Aussies embraces this National day with both arms, and London is no different. Many Pubs will have the VB flowing all day.  
  29th Chinese New Year - Soho, London. Year of the Dog, celebrations include dragons, dancers and fireworks. Not to be missed!  
  30th Internet free day - The thought is there, getting back to basics and all, but can we really do without Gumtree?????? If you are reading this, then that means no!  
  31st Up-Helly-Aa - Lerwick, Scotland. Traditional Viking Fire Festival in The Shetland Islands. Its time for the 1,000 or so locals to party hard and get Mediaeval as they burn a replica long ship in the harbour.....as you do!  
       
  February    
  16th - 26th Jolablot 2006 (Jorvik Viking Festival) - York, England. Does chewing on a raw leg of.... something dead, and wearing a fur vest and helmet tickle your fancy? Well there are more than 10,000 weirdoes just like you, who turn up to watch be helmeted, shielded Norse warriors fight to the (mock) death with their enemies, the Saxons. Makes "Its-a-knockout" look like McDonalds play land.  
  4th Six Nations Rugby - Dublin - Ireland take on Italy at Lansdowne Road  
      - London - England take on Wales at Twickenham  
  6th Waitangi Day - Worldwide. Now it is the Kiwis turn to show the rest of the world how to party in the name of their homeland.  
  5th Six Nations Rugby - Scotland - Scotland take on France at Murrayfield  
  28th Shrove Tuesday - Pancake day!  
       
  9th - 12th Cheltenham Folk Festival - Cheltenham, England. The Folk Festival presents both national and local artists. As well as song & dance there's also workshops, children's events, indoor camping and real ale.  
  11th Six Nations Rugby - France - France take on Ireland at Stade de France  
      - Italy- Italy take on England at Stadio Flaminio  
  12th Six Nations Rugby - Cardiff - Wales take on Scotland at the Millennium Stadium  
  15th - 19th London Fashion Week - London. Whether you are into Victoria Beckham or Victoria Bitter, This years London Fashion week will have something for everyone. The A-list of London will be amongst it all week so don't forget to check your mailboxes for invitations.......................yeah right!  
  15th UEFA Cup - First leg. Start of the UEFA Cup.  
  14th Valentines day!! - Widely recognized as the most romantic day of the year, Valentines Day is a consumer's paradise. No excuse this year guys, go out and spend your £'s on your lovely lady.  
  tbc Inverness Music Festival - Inverness, Scotland. The Inverness Music Festival is a competitive music festival with two non competitive concerts as a finale. It is held at various venues in the city for three weeks.

  3rd - 5th British Universities Surfing Championships - Fistral Beach, Newquay. Renowned as the single largest surfing event in Europe

  9th March -2nd April Ideal Home Show - Earls Court, London. The largest home and garden show in the UK  
  3rd Ash Wednesday The start of Lent  
  11th Six Nations Rugby - Cardiff - Wales take on Italy at the Millennium Stadium

  17th St Patrick's Day - All pubs. Guinness aplenty, All of Britain overflows with merriment as the green clad locals celebrate in honour of the Irish patron saint.... to be sure!

  April    
  2nd Oxford vs. Cambridge University boat race - River Thames, London. The world's longest surviving sporting challenge starts at Putney and concludes 4 and a quarter miles later in Mortlake. Big crowds turn up each year to see this bunch of Academics row their way into the hearts of, well, hundreds. Definitely worth a bit of a butcher's hook and a couple of pigs ears.  
  5th Champions League Quarter Finals  
  5th - 9th Ideal Home and Garden Show - SECC ,Glasgow London  
  6th - 8th The Grand National - Aintree Racecourse, Liverpool. The most famous Steeplechase in the world, where riders risk their lives sending their steeds over massive hedges, water jumps and 10 foot drop offs. Injuries almost guaranteed.  
  14th Good Friday - Public Holiday.

  23rd Flora London Marathon - London. If you fancy yourself as one of those folks who can run for almost a day, then this is your time to do it. If not, well just grab an esky and watch the other crazy's do it.

Anzac Day - Australia and New Zealand. Remembrance day for Australians and New Zealanders who lost their lives in Gallipoli, Turkey. This year it is the 90th anniversary!

  1st Stilton Cheese Rolling - Stilton, Cambridgeshire. Check out the cheese ball steering skills at this cheese rolling festival.......don't ask!  
    May Day Bank Holiday - Woo hoo!!!! time to sleep in, sightsee, hit the pub or do whatever you like!!!!  
  6th - 28th Brighton International Festival - Brighton, England. The Lanes of Brighton come alive for this 3 week annual festival,this year celebrating 40years as the leading arts festival in England. A bevy of Arts, Film, Fireworks and street theatre. Highly recommended chill out zone, and all totally free!  
  11th - 15th npower Test series 1st test - England vs Sri Lanka - Lords, London. This is the fist of a three test match series.  
  13th FA Cup Final - Cardiff, Wales. Being the only knockout tournament in which every team in England has a shot at the title, the FA Cup is synonymous with making dreams come true, and this year is no different. Millennium Stadium plays host to the most prestigious cup final of the year.

UEFA Champions League Final - Stade de France, Paris, France will host the creme-de-la-creme of European soccer stars in The Champions League Final.

 
  19th-27th Aug Glyndebourne Festival of Opera - East Sussex, England. Now into the 68th year of this famous festival  
  20th Heineken Cup Final - Cardiff, Wales . The 11th Heineken Cup final is the pinnacle of club rugby in Europe. Should be a thriller.  
  23rd - 27th Chelsea Flower Show - London, England. "Hello Possums!!!" With more Gladioli that you can poke a stamen at, the Chelsea Flower Show has been around longer than....well...quite a lot of things. "A rose by any other name would stink the same!"  
  25th - 29th npower Test series 2nd test - England vs Sri Lanka - Edgbaston, Birmingham  
  27th - 28th UCI Mountain Bike World Cup - Fort William, Scotland  
  27th - 28th Hi: Fi South - The Bowl, Winchester, Hants. Homelands this year takes up its regular spot at Matterly Estate, as bands from all over rock the earth!  
  27th - 9th June TT Races - Isle of Man. Remember when you were a kid and those crazies on 2 wheels raced around narrow country lanes? THIS IS IT!! TT2004 is back!!  
  28th World Superbike Championship - Silverstone, England.

  2nd - 6th npower Test series 3rd test - England vs Sri Lanka - Trent Bridge, Nottingham.  
  3rd Epsom Derby Day - Ascot, England. Add this to the list of must do's over summer. Great day out, but keep your taxi fare to one side just in case.  
  5th - 23rd Spitalfields Festival - London. Global music fest at this great east London location  
  9th - 11th Isle of Wight Festival - Newport, Isle of Wight. This is the Isle of Wight's Music Festival, this year is due to be a huge hit!  
  9th - 11th Download Festival - Donnington park. - Yep, ROCK returns to Donington for three days of fully loaded action from the biggest names, and everything is set to make this Download festival bigger and better than the last.  
  12th - 18th Stella Artois Tennis Championships - Queen's Club, Barons Court. This popular tournament is the traditional lead up to Wimbledon and so has many of the International tennis stars taking part. Fairly easy to get tickets here, so if you aren't looking forward to fighting for a ticket to Wimbledon, this is your answer.  
  15th Twenty20 International -England vs Sri Lanka - Rose Bowl, Southampton.This is one match that is going to be a brilliant. No matter who wins!  
  20th - 24th Royal Ascot - Berkshire, England. This is by far the biggest and poshest day in England's racing calendar. Not a day for thongs, stubbies and a singlet.  
  21st Mid Summers day - Longest day of the year, as well as being Prince William's birthday....so there.  
    Summer Solstice at Stonehenge - England. If you haven't already visited this ancient wonder, now is the time.

Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships - London. Fancy some strawberries, champagne and a bit of a queue? Then this is for you.

 
  26th - 13th July City of London Festival - London. From World music to Jazz, Classical to contemporary, This festival hosts a diverse range of musical genres performed by some of the worlds leading artists.

  4th - 9th Hampton Court Palace Flower show Surrey, England  
  4th - 6th Aug World Superbike Championship - Brands Hatch, England.  
  8th - 9th T in The Park 2005 - Kinross, Scotland. One of Scotland's biggest music weekends of the year with many international and homegrown acts taking part. Final line-up yet to be finalized but will be updated at soon as details are available.  
  9th - 11th British Grand Prix - Silverstone, England.  
  13th nPower Test - Lord's, London - England vs Pakistan  
  14th - 16th Guilfest Live Music Festival - Stoke Park, Guildford. With a lovely mellow vibe, live music isn't the only thing on offer - you'll find street theatre, buskers, a craft village and market area, food from around the world (Yum!!), and a monumental beer tent with real ale (YUMMO!!!!!!!!!!!!).  
  20th - 23rd The Open Championship - Royal Liverpool, Hoylake. The oldest and most prestigious of all golfing tournaments.  
  22nd-23rd Inverness Highland games - Scotland. Once again, Inverness comes alive with the traditional highland games. The games have had a huge spectator following for years now, and why not. Tossing the wee Cabers, Sportly Sporrans, Killer Kilts and all the Haggis you can eat.  
  26th - 24th September Summer Opening of the State Rooms of Buckingham Palace - London. Come and see how the other half live. The Queeny has pulled out all the stops to make us feel at home by inviting us around for a bit of a cuppa. I was wondering where all of the emergency tax we pay goes....Crikey!!  
  27th - 30th Cambridge Folk Festival - Cherry Hinton Hall Grounds, Cambridge. After a long, hot (hopefully), summer of loud music festivals, the Cambridge Folk Festival comes around as a bit of a warm down to help you regain your sanity, and your hearing.  
  30th - 6th August Cowes Week - Cowes, Isle of Wight. One of the world's largest and most famous yachting regattas takes to the sea for this week in August. Don't expect any Nautical Bovines, though........they got moooved to another location!!!!

  1st - 7th Rip Curl Newquay Board Masters - Newquay, Cornwall. This 4 star rated contest with US$75,000 prize money, is the only World surfing event in England this year. This WQS event should provide spectators with an excuse to sit on the beach, "ooh" and "aah" at the surfing prowess, and have a cheeky beer or 12 in the process. But remember, alcohol and water don't mix!  
  3rd - 7th The Great British Beer Festival!!!! - Olympia,London. That's right. Time for us all to trial local beers, Doesn't take much to twist the old arm, does it!  
  4th - 8th 2nd nPower Test - Edgbaston, Birmingham - Australia vs Engliand - The Aussies head to Old Blighty to once again defend "their" Ashes! Can the Poms carry on their current good form to overturn the Australian Juggernaut, or will the Number 1 team in the world retain the biggest prize in cricket, once again??  
  5th - 27th Edinburgh Military Tattoo - Edinburgh, Scotland. An extravagant traditional display of armed forces old and new. Full of flag wavers.  
  8th - 30th Edinburgh Fringe Festival - Edinburgh, Scotland. The Worlds largest Arts Festival is now ingrained deep into Scotland's cultural calendar. "One of the artistic wonders of the world" is a quote, which sums up the feel of a jewel in the crown of Britain's summer calendar.  
  11th - 14th Bristol Balloon Fiesta - Ashton Court, Bristol. Hot Air Balloons will fill the sky day and night for this weekend, when Bristol plays host to the largest Festival of its kind in Europe.  
  11th - 15th 3rd nPower Test - Old Trafford, Manchester - Australia vs Engliand - The Aussies head to Old Blighty to once again defend "their" Ashes! Can the Poms carry on their current good form to overturn the Australian Juggernaut, or will the Number 1 team in the world retain the biggest prize in cricket, once again??  
  14th - 4th Sep. Edinburgh International Festival - Edinburgh, Scotland. As a perfect compliment to the Fringe Festival, The International Festival presents great orchestras and cutting edge choreographers, familiar names and world premieres, grand opera and intimate chamber music.  
  20th - 24th The Rose of Tralee International Festival - Tralee, Republic of Ireland. Apparently this energetic music, arts and drinking (well, what do you expect....it is in Ireland!)festival traces its roots back to a bit of a love story. Boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy creates an excuse to go on a weeklong drinking binge to get over it, boy happy again....end of story!  
  20th - 21st V- Festival - Essex, England. With one of the biggest line-ups ever assembled in the UK for a live music event last year, 'V2004' is assured to be even better this year. Leeds Festival - Bramham Park, Leeds, West Yorkshire. - After a few years of problems with violence marring the end of the festival, 2003 passed off smoothly on the new site at Bramham Park. This should mean that the future of this event is now secure. Need tickets? Click here.
 
  27th - 29th Reading Festival - Reading, - Tickets will be priced £90 plus booking fee this is for a weekend ticket which includes camping. Will be available to buy sometime in March or April. They are available from most HMV stores and also Ticket master outlets. There is also a credit card hotline. which has not been released yet.  
  28th - 29th Notting Hill Carnival - London, England. The most colourful of all festivals in London by a country mile. With Caribbean music, dancing and Food (lots of food!!). Be prepared.  
  30th Late Summer Holiday - UK. "We're all goin' on a .....late summer holiday!"  
  29th - 11th September US Open - Flushing Meadow, New York, - Go online to book tickets or catch it Live on Sky Digital.  
  26th - 28th Solfest - Tarns, nr Aspatria Cumbria, - A new festival that's looking at becoming an annual event. Artists booked so far include Shooglenifty, Croft no. 5, Flook and the Levellers (tbc).

  7th - 10th Burghley Horse Trials 2005 - Burghley - The Burghley Horse Trials will have it all world class sporting action and shopping set against the backdrop of the glorious Burghley House.

  31st Hallowe'en - Break out the bed sheets, fake blood and start practicing your trick-or-treats folks because here is yet another excuse to get together with loved ones, get drunk and scare the crap out of each other. AAAaaaAAH!

  17th - 19th Erotica 2006 - Olympia, London - Sexpo for erotic paraphernalia. If last year is anything to go by, this year should be a blast. Whips, canes, guns, donkeys, mayonnaise, etc.

  7th Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree Lighting - London. Lighting of the christmas tree, a gift form the people of Norway.  
  25th Christmas Day - Worldwide, - Day of gifts, good food and warm fires.

Edinburgh's Hogmanay - Scotland - Huge Street Festival with New years eve as the central event. World-class performers and freedom to drink yourself stupid!! Get to the Castle too, it's awesome.

 
  31st New Years Eve! - New Zealand's is celebrated at 11am, Australia's is at 1pm and South Africa at 10pm. How long will you last?
