orthodontic nurse nw3
Malmin orthodontics require an orthodontic nurse to work as part of a dental team to assist in the delivery of orthodontic care services to patients. Most particularly by providing support and assistance to the designated clinician and to assist in clinical and non-clinical aspects of client care in line with practice procedures.
Specific Tasks:
Clinical Areas:
To assist the orthodontist in all clinical procedures to include taking xrays and photographs
To set-up and prepare the surgery for the type of patient and treatment planned before the start of each session. Prepare the necessary materials and instruments
Ensure safe disposal of sharps and clinical waste
Process, mount and store dental radiographs and assist in the correct procedure for dental radiography
Maintain and clean radiograph processing unit
To make retainers if required. Training will be provided of required.
To assist in planning appointments to avoid delaying both patients an clinicians
To ensure that the surgical areas and equipment are regularly cleaned and maintained, including aspiration systems and autoclaves. Paying all due attention to relevant legal and ethical codes, in addition to the practice policy, in respect of cross infection control and health & safety
To keep accurate records and ensure the recording methods are used in lie with agreed practice policy and current medico-legal guidelines
To advise the practice manager of any faulty or poorly functioning equipment
General:
To escort patients from waiting room to the surgery, confirming medical history is up to date and informing the orthodontist of any problems noted
To take all reasonable measures to ensure patient comfort
To maintain patient confidentiality (this includes preventing medical histories, treatment proposals, conversations, financial transactions and reactions to treatment being overheard)
To establish and maintain productive working relationships with all members of the dental team
Maintain records to ensure that materials are never out of stock
To ensure that dental laboratory work is sent and returned on time
To follow practice Health & Safety codes in all aspects including handling/taking x-rays, resuscitation, emergency procedures and fire drill
To maintain and increase competence in nursing skills by actively following a programme of continuous professional development
To carry out any other duties to ensure that patients receive the highest quality of patient care
To be flexible with your duties to ensure the smooth running of the practice
