Hi,

I’m giving this lark one more try. I'd almost given up with Gumtree after posting an ad and receiving criticism, rather than proper replies, claiming that I'm too negative! All I did was to point out that it's a wonder half the girls who post get any replies at all when citing their interests as eating out, tv, cinema, dvds, etc... and making a big deal out of saying that they 'love socialising' (spelling that with a 'z' is worth another rant in itself). All I did was to suggest that they add 'breathing' to their list of passtimes and have done with it. Apparently I hit a few nerves among the unimaginative who have such a fast-paced lifestyle, that they took time out to point out my errors in ad writing.

I don't really have a 'type' but have a definite weakness for redheads and heavy eyeliner. Age range... probably 21 - 33, other than that I probably find personality in a girl much more attractive than superficial stuff. Corny but true.

Geeks and weirdos most welcome. Geeky should point towards a good deal of intelligence, though I prefer librarian geek to sci-fi geek. Weird is also good. It means unique, full of character, and with a personality that doesn’t mould itself to expectations of the dull masses. I’d be worried if I was ever described as normal.

I’m a smoker too. This has become a bigger issue than ever since the ban came in. I mean, how can you go on a date with someone who doesn’t smoke when you have to leave them on their own on a regular basis only to return stinking of smoke? It just doesn’t work if one’s a smoker and the other isn’t, despite what they may say about not minding.

As you can probably tell I have an opinion on everything, just wind me up and away I go. I'm also a shade of red with my political views. Having fairly recently graduated from a Marxist uni, while studying Russian history, it was unavoidable for me to turn out any other way. But then I’m fine with you always being right. My self-esteem could always do with a good work-out.

Obviously you’ll need a great sense of humour to put up with me. Sarcasm is best used sparingly in my view otherwise it’s a talent wasted on stupid people. Being able to take the piss out of yourself is also an endearing quality. It shows that you're not afraid to make mistakes and are comfortable being you.

The physical side of me is - 33, 6 ft 2, longish dark scruffy hair, blue eyes, slim/average build.

I play bass guitar in a gigging rock n roll band which, apart from getting to play music, is great for exploring venues all over London and meeting people who have similar taste in music. We gig about once a week and I usually get out one other night to check out unsigned bands. Most are absolute dross to be honest but you do find the odd gem. You really should be into rock/metal and the odd gig if you go anywhere near the reply button.

Another passion of mine is clothes, without being too tarty about it! I love car boot sales, charity shops, and markets for finding retro stuff. There's so much more of a sense of satisfaction finding clothes this way, rather than heading to Camden or Brick Lane where the hard work of finding items is done for you and you're charged accordingly.


I’m a history graduate and that side of me means I have a love for classic literature (though I'm working through Bill Bryson's back catalogue at the moment), art (mainly the late nineteenth/early twentieth century stuff - impressionism, dadaism, surealism or anything old and Dutch!). I'm just as at home in a dingey bar as I am in a museum or art gallery. I’ll be embarking on the scary prospect of a teaching career later this year as I’m getting on a bit and just need a reason to be put off having kids of my own (though a couple of rugrats would be lovely one day).

It would be amazing to hear from at least one person that isn't promising to 'make good wife' from far and away...
