Criminal Finance Lawyer
providing written and oral advice to investigators as to whether proceedings should be commenced, and the strengths and weaknesses of the case in light of the relevant section of the legislation;
drafting and perusing legal documents, including witness statements;
advising case officers on further investigations that would assist the case;
preparing briefs to counsel for mentions, final hearings and appeals;
attending and leading conferences with counsel and investigators to prepare for hearing;
instructing counsel at hearing in the Magistrates' Court, Crown Court and High Court;
carrying out research on case law to assist counsel;
corresponding with case officers, other solicitors, barristers and respondents in a clear and concise manner;
liaising with other agencies that may have an interest in the case.
considering possible negotiation and settlement of the matter, if favourable to the department;
assisting other solicitors within the department with their caseload, if required; and
monitoring paralegals who assist with administrative tasks.
Must be legally qualified lawyer/barrister to practice in England and must have completed training contract/pupillage and be admited or called
Must have litigation and casework experience
Team worker
CRB not essential to start but will be required
The role is temporary, probably for 2 - 3 months poss longer
