Asset management. Paralegal
This leading investment bank requires a Paralegal to join its legal team servicing its Asset Management activities predominantly in Europe and Asia. The successful candidate will work with the existing group of lawyers and three other paralegals in this permanent appointment.
The paralegal team sits with the rest of the legal team on the business floor. The legal team is expected to be pro-active in guiding the business unit on legal matters and has substantial direct interaction with its marketing, client service, trading, portfolio management, operations and compliance teams, not just in London but also in the US and Asia, will be a feature of this position.
Role
•Negotiation of fund distribution agreements and other distribution related documentation and oversight of key legal elements of the distributor take on process, particularly related to our regulated mutual fund range.
•Legal support to its global cash portal, a money market fund service provided to key clients.
•Advise upon the structuring of mutual fund products and the implementation of new funds. In particular assist with maintaining the registrations of Luxembourg and Irish registered UCITS Funds.
•Deal with questions relating to the cross border promotion of fund products and investment services, including applicable private placement rules in all markets around the world.
•Assist with the negotiation and amendment of Investment Management Agreements.
•Negotiate brokerage and other counterparty and trading documentation, including electronic trading and other IT agreements, and work with the business units on a broad range of asset management related trading issues.
•While not the primary focus, ability to assist with ISDA and other derivative documentation would be helpful.
Qualifications and Skills
•Experience gained in private practice with a fund management practice or in-house with another asset manager is essential.
•Familiarity with FSA issues and knowledge of key regulatory issues would be desirable.
•Language skills esp., German, Spanish and/or Italian would also be a strong advantage.
•Law degree, postgraduate degree, UK LPC or BVC (or equivalent) is preferred.
· Drafting and negotiation skills would be an advantage
•Primarily an appetite and ability to learn new things and not just to be able to apply procedures and processes, but also to understand them and input into their development and improvement.
•Team player with the ability to be pro-active in a challenging business environment, whilst adhering to firm policies and group practices.
•Personable and confident with ability to interact well directly with the business team and to take on responsibility for key business relationships.
We would expect a lawyer with the given PQE to have gained the level of experience required, but this does not preclude applications from those with more or less PQE.
