Splendid Townhouse in Rural White Village near Gaucin, Andalucia (£159,000)
An excellent rental holiday home that has exceeded all our expectations and has recently been selected for the 'Top Ten' rental properties in the Ronda Area for the Police Force Travel Club.
The 110m2 townhouse is located in the very heart of El Colmenar, also known as Estacion de Gaucin, and has a panoramic roof terrace offering complete privacy, spectacular views and ideal for barbeques. You can picnic by, or swim in, the beautiful fresh water river, less than 5 minutes walk away, or you can drive to the beaches of Estepona in under an hour.
The house features a modern, fully equipped kitchen and spacious living/dining room with television and DVD player. Upstairs has two double bedrooms and a study with desk. All the bedrooms have french windows with balconies and there is a lovely family bathroom with full-length bath and powerful shower. The village has a few shops and a vibrant social life with great quality restaurants yet also offers a very relaxing environment ideal for those who enjoy nature. The scenic train line through the village connects Gibraltar (1 hour away) and Ronda (45 minutes). Malaga airport is reached by car in 90 minutes.
The village has a Unicaja bank, post office, pharmacy and hairdresser. Yoga and aerobics classes take place every week. The river is wonderful for swimming and the water is cool and clean coming from the canyon less than a mile away. Local sports include horse riding, rock climbing, kayaking and canyoning while there is an extensive network of hiking trails. The area is fantastic for mountain biking and El Colmenar Safari offers terrific guided cycle routes. Their emphasis is cycling for pleasure and fun (yummy paella is involved on some rides!). For dancing, there is even a village disco! There is also a Holistic Retreat Centre offering therapies (Turkish bath, sauna, massage, osteopathy) in beautiful grounds near the river.
The village has five restaurants and all are friendly, lively and run by locals and use seasonal home-grown produce. There are two mini-markets and a bakery selling just about everything you could possibly need! In addition, there is a weekly fresh produce market while a fresh fish van visits the village twice a week as well as another selling frozen goods. Oranges and lemons can be picked locally. Large supermarkets can be found in Ronda and on the coast for a larger ‘stock up’ and Gaucin has an excellent organic store/cafe.
The nearest village is Gaucin, a 15 minute drive, with views to the coast and across the Straits of Gibraltar to the Atlas mountains. Cortes de la Frontera is a stunning 30 minute drive from the village through the cork forest. Ronda is an extremely attractive town with the famous bull-ring and bridge over the gorge - reached by car or train in 45 minutes. Ubrique is a thriving town and the heart of Spain's leather production - a 45 minute drive further inland.
The sandy beaches of the Costa del Sol are less than one hour drive away (Estepona, Sotogrande). The white, unspoilt beaches of the Costa de la Luz near Tarifa, ideal for wind and kite surfing, are less than one and a half hours drive away.
