Gavin Walsh Boot Camps was launched in 2006 as one of the first boot camps in the country in a bid to make people realise that they don't need to waste endless amounts of money on gym membership, which they don't even use. Gavin Walsh Boot Camp uses minimal equipment for maximal results.
But don't just take their word for it. See what one of recent members had to say on her blog:
"A few blogs ago I complained my weight had scooted up in the last week at bootcamp. Well I ditched the potato at lunchtime, upped my water intake, did 45 mins exercise on Thursday and guess what? It fell off again! So the official figure is 5.2kg off. Phew! So close to a stone but not quite. Anyway who's complaining! It's a still a healthy loss and from today I'm back in bootcamp - let the torture continue :)
This weekend, I decided to celebrate in traditional, time-honoured, girly fashion. I went shopping :-) Although I've a long way to go, I wanted to mark what's happened so far by getting something. So I took myself to Clapham Junction.
I also had to get some work shirts so first stop, M&S.
As I reached for the size 18, it struck me that I might not actually be the same size anymore. Tentatively I picked up a 16 as well and headed for the fitting rooms. The 18 fitted. Of course it would. I'd have been shocked if it hadn't. For the hell of it, I tried the 16. It fitted better. Several tries later I couldn't deny it. Apart from a slight snugness around the hips, everywhere else the 16 fitted better. I tried the 18 again. Fine across the hips, but the collar was a little too big and the shoulders didn't sit on the shoulder. Considering that I'm about to start bootcamp again, I got two shirts in a 16.
Feeling a little spring in my step, I hit Debenhams. Looking around the racks though, I suddenly got a little scared. Am I really a different size? What can I wear? What works for me now? Have I lost enough to worry or am I kidding myself that there's a noticable difference? M&S sizes are generous compared to most after all.
I found a kinda Grecian-looking top I liked, which I thought I could risk trying because though it was a size 14, it was drapey. There was also a quirky, ruffley dark blue dress with little polka dots that appealed to me. M/L but worth a go, as it was a label unlikely to stock an XL.
I tried the dress first and was absolutely amazed. It didn't just fit, it looked good. Ruffles round the neck, bare shoulders, layery skirt...not long ago it would have been a nightmare. But it was sweet! It didn't flatten my bust, or sit around my middle, or cling to my back. It fitted smoothly, showing off my shoulders, and my hips actually looked in proportion with the rest of me. The biggest surprise was my legs. Between wide legs trousers, jeans and tracksuit bottoms, I suppose I don't really look at my pins. And frankly I've avoided looking at them. Right now in the shop mirror though I could see that my ankles are actually quite small, my calves are quite nicely shaped and my thighs...well, the thighs do need work to be honest. Altogether they weren't the car-crash I expected.
Excited, I tried the top. Well, the shoulders were great, but it hung unhappily around the chest and drooped weirdly at the back. I rearranged it a few times to see it I could make it work and eventually I asked the fitting room attendent for her opinion. She cocked her head, wrinkled her nose, and said tentatively, "Isn't it just too big?"
I checked the label, walked over to her and gave her a hug. She was a bit startled, but to be told that a size 14 was too big...!
I wore the dress to a picnic yesterday and felt like the bee's knees."
