Vw T4 Swb Camper Van (£925)

The van is fitted with a 2.0L petrol engine (according to the previous owner out of a mk2 or mk3 Golf gti - not sure which as I'm not sure where the engine code is) I do know that it pulls like a train and will happily cruise all day above the national speed limit Also the gearbox is really smooth and precise. There is a simple direct injection lpg system fitted for cheap motoring - the power is slightly down when running on gas (prob still more than a diesel though!) but it's not a problem when cruising, listening to the stereo and paying 50pence a litre!

When I got the van - I put it in for a mega service - all the fluids and filters replaced , a complete new ignition system (including magnecore leads and a new dizzy!) also the brakes were completely gone through to make sure the van stopped as well as it went. To improve the cooling an additional kenlowe fan was added to the existing thermostatically contolled fan.

I've also fitted an InPhase remote control headunit (4x60w) It's got mp3 connectivity and inputs for memory cards/usb inputs etc , Alpine speakers to replace the originals and Infinity 6x9's in the back. I've got a proper tailored automotive carpet to replace the one thats in the back and a moulded plastic side step cover from CMC customs - both included but not fitted. I was going to fit a seat from a Chrysler Grand Voyager in the back - these fold flat and could be used as part of a bed - they are available on ebay for about £50 - £100.

As you can see from the pics the body work is finished in a fetching shade of nato satin green paint - this is set of with the black alloys, tinted side windows and side pipes and a front splitter from a later model adding to the lowered look achieved with uprated , lowered springs all around. The ride is really good, although the lack of power steering and the wider alloys make steering heavy at parking speeds - not too much of a problem with the larger diameter steering wheel though! The body work is really straight with no hidden surprises although there is the odd ding comensurate with a van that once had to work for a living! These look like the result of stuff being thrown in the back and do not really detract from the overall look.

Other stuff - there is a rude boy back box fitted that isn't really to everyones taste but it does give the engine a nice note! There is a slow leak in one of the rear tyres - I think it's the valve - sometimes takes a month to go noticably flat. The back load area is soundproofed and carpeted but it's in no way a proffesional job - it is a blank canvas though. The ignition key fits all the doors and they all open and close like they should. When I got the van there was a loose connection meaning the petrol/temp gauge intermittantly worked - I bought a new gauge pod but the fault is still there. They work with a wiggle of the plug in the back - I've left some of the wire covers off so that I can reach behind the gauges - I don't find it a massive problem : if I run out of petrol I can drive a couple of hundred miles on the lpg!
