Head of Communication Architecture
•Preparation of a communications and PR strategy, in line with the marketing and business development strategy. This will be developed in line with the business plan and approved by the Board on an annual basis. It will be monitored and updated in response to changing circumstances.
•Attend, contribute and support the Business Development Group (meetings held every 4-6 weeks) in defining and delivering group/sector communications, publicity and business development activity.
•Contribute to the monthly marketing activity report to the Board, keeping Directors and senior managers appraised of publicity and promotion opportunities.
•Develop strong relationships with the media, in particularly, with journalists in the trade and national press. This includes seeking in-depth coverage of our work in the press so as to promote our reputation for high quality service and design.
•Regularly monitor the media, government and industry websites for national or local issues which will influence the work of the practice.
•Regularly develop, write and issue press releases and publicity opportunities on subjects likely to be of interest to the press and which will positively enhance the image and reputation of our business
•Review and approve written copy, at times providing copy writing (eg. award entries, marketing material, corporate brochures etc),to ensure that messages are expertly and succinctly communicated
•In conjunction with members of staff or directors, identify and write stories or opinion pieces and arrange for them to be placed in the press or other media.
•Ensure that our press website is kept up to date, with particular emphasis on news stories, press releases, and imagery and project examples.
•In conjunction with the Human Resources and Knowledge Management teams, assist with the preparation of an internal communications strategy to ensure that all members of staff are kept well informed regarding company policies and activities.
•Build strong contacts within our regional and overseas offices to ensure that local PR and communications needs are being served, that communications between offices is effective and that there is a consistent approach across the practice.
•Development of other staff – we are concerned that all staff achieve their maximum potential and are encouraged to develop new skills. The Head of Communications will be expected to contribute to these objectives through coaching and communication across the practice.
•Undertake tasks and activities related to the promotion of good communications, both externally and internally, and help form best practice methodologies across the practice.
The candidate should be highly proficient at verbal and written English (additional languages will be advantageous, be a quick thinker who is able to act independently and demonstrate solid people management and negotiation skills.
Experience of working within a medium sized organisation and its communications function would be advantageous.
They will have had several years experience within a similar role with demonstrable achievements and responsibility to a senior level. They will preferably have direct experience within architecture, housing or construction and will be aware of the market and environment. They will be knowledgeable about design and passionate about promoting the value of it. They will have excellent inter-personal skills with an ability to write and speak clearly and to engage with clients, the media and our staff. Of particular importance are good connections with the architectural, housing and trade press. They will have good IT skills to enable communication through the most up to date sites.
Degree in communications preferred
