YARDSMAN REQUIRED AT BUILDERS MERCHANTS

CANDIDATE WILL IDEALLY HAVE PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE WORKING IN THIS ENVIRONMENT

MUST PROVIDE PROOF OF VALID UK/EU PASSPORT

PREFERRABLY SPEAK PUNJABI AND/OR HINDI AS ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE

Assist customers to select and load building materials, timber, etc.
Load customer orders on to transport, report any items unable to load the Yard Foreman.
Meet customer needs efficiently and politely.
Unload and receive goods into the warehouse and yard area. Ensure that goods are accurately booked in and discrepancies reported to the Yard Foreman. Check that goods received are in a good, saleable condition.
Ensure safe stacking of stock.
Transport goods to their locations for storage/display.
Accurately label goods for customers and branches.
Accurately book goods on to the computer system.
Receive returns goods in to the warehouse and ensure that all returns documents are accurately completed and that returned goods are in a saleable condition. Ensure that Special Item goods are not booked in as received.
Transport accepted returns goods in to the warehouse or yard as appropriate.
Load returns on to suppliers transport.
Advise branches of availability of stock transfer.
Advise Yard Foreman of out of stock items or depleting usual lines.
Ensure safe operation of equipment used.
Ensure workplace is secure, general housekeeping. Straighten materials on display and maintain safe and orderly conditions.
Cover exposed materials when required to prevent weather damage.
Take part in stock takes.
Present a professional image of the company.
Fulfil any reasonable task that is required.

Directly answerable to the Yard Foreman.

Possess good written and numeracy skills to interpret delivery notes.

Have a friendly, approachable and helpful personality.
Have a neat and tidy appearance.
Have good health and reasonable strength.
Have the ability to prioritise duties throughout the day.
Have a general awareness of health and safety.
Have previous experience/training of forklift truck, sideloader, crane off-load.
