Jonty's Walks: supercheap guided walks around London from " Big Brother" 's Jonty
Hello there.
These are my tours:
On Sunday, 15th November 2009 at 11:00 I shall start a LONDON OVERGROUND DAY TRIP for £5 per person. We'll meet outside Highbury & Islington station. We'll be exploring the Outer Circle Line that will one day form the heart of the London Overground rail network. Some of it will involve walking (and me talking as ever!) but there will also be a lot of riding around on 'buses and trains, some pauses for a pint or two and breaks for lunch and dinner. On our travels we'll see the place where Captain Kidd was hanged, London's Vietnamese quarter and the side of Millwall's football stadium and discover the road King Henry VIII walked up to reach his hunting lodge in Newington Green and visit the busiest railway station in Britain. (You will need Travelcards folks!) Depending on the speed of TfL, our walking speed (and, of course, our drinking speed!) we should be back by 20:00. We'll eat in the pub that saw the Pilgrim Fathers off to America in the 17th century - the Thames splashes right up to your feet there! In the evening we'll eat in Imperial Wharf near a railway station that's only been there since September of this year. Oh yes, and we'll follow a 19th-century murderess into the bargain!
On 10th and 13th November at 18:30 (agaiin you'll need a Travelcard) I'll start a SHAKESPEAREAN PUB CRAWL. We'll be meeting at the non-River side of Embankment tube station and it's £5. It's roughly four hours but it may take longer depending on whether we can still stand up by the end! The idea of this one is to get slowly hammered while wandering round the London Boroughs of Westminster and Tower Hamlets and the City of London looking for echoes of people and places of the Late Tudor and Early Jacobean periods. As with the walk above there'll be a lot of riding on public transport as well as walking and talking. We'll end up at the Town of Ramsgate pub in Wapping. I'll happily navigate people on from there to bits of London they've actually heard of.
On 9th and 12th November I shall take anyone willing for £3 on a walk around Westminster with a "Doctor Who" twist - my "DOCTOR WHO"'S WESTMINSTER walk. We shall meet by the equestrian statue of the Duke of Wellington by Exit 2 of Hyde Park Corner tube station and we'll end up by Westminster tube station. The walk will take about 2 hours.
No booking required for any of them - just turn up!
The best to you all,
Jonty
