Required is a teacher with an element of experience of teaching ASD students at this level. Communication methods such as PECS, social stories and comic strip conversations as well as systems to support routine and structure are incorporated within teaching methods. The school uses the TEACCH approach to structure the children’s work and encourage independence. Teaching is well assisted by a high number of Learning Support Assistants meeting individual pupil needs. A speech and language therapist specialising in autistic spectrum disorders works in the school together with the whole teaching team on average for four days per week creating a whole school communicative environment. This post is initially on a long term basis with the view to a permanent appointment for the right candidate.

Good systems have been established to monitor and evaluate these provisions and this gives a clear view of the actual strengths and weaknesses of the school high lighting where the is a need for improvement. Across the school, a high emphasis is given to personal development and this builds well on the diversity of pupils' backgrounds and ensures a systematic development of their key skills. Enrichment is very good and a wide range of visits are undertaken throughout the academic year
