Paid Research at the Institute of Psychiatry
You are invited to enquire about suitability to participate in a study investigating thinking processes and brain activity in offenders and non-offenders.
We would be pleased to hear from you if you:
• are:
- male
- right handed
- aged 26 - 48 years old
- able to lie still inside an magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) brain scanner for two hours?
• DO speak English as a first language/mother tongue and are OK at reading
• DO have fairly good eyesight and hearing
• DO NOT have any metal inside your body (i.e. no metal pins, pacemaker, hearing implant, shrapnel or mechanical / electrical or magnetic foreign bodies as a result of an operation; metal tooth fillings are OK)
• DO NOT have A Levels or further post-16 educational qualifications?
• DO NOT have any convictions / cautions for violent offences
If you meet the above criteria, we would be extremely pleased to hear from you. In total there will be up to four days of testing. These do not need to be all at one time and we are flexible about days and times to suit your own availability / schedule.
• You will be paid £40 per whole day of research and we will reimburse travel expenses (i.e. bus fares);
• You will NOT be required to inject or consume any substances whatsoever, or undertake anything painful or harmful during the research;
• The testing includes interviews, self report questionnaires, MRI brain scanning, computer tests and tests which measure brain activity.
