Why do men love bitches and women love jerks?

Ever had the opportunity to see your dream-girl go out with a total jerk who doesn't respect her or care for her in the way you so willingly would if she only gave you the chance? Or what about that bitch who treats every guy she dates like a doormat and for some strange reason all the guys are after her whilst so many nice girls are just glanced over and ignored. This paradox of social dynamics is something we've all seen and experienced even though it may seem counterintuitive from a purely rational point of view. Perhaps you've also experienced this from the other side, the girl/guy that seems too eager to please immediately becomes less attractive, whereas that other person who practically ignores you except for some sporadic bursts of attention seems amazingly attractive.
