Arete Consulting is a specialist financial research and consulting business with offices in London, New York and Hong Kong. The business was established in 2001 and focuses on financial derivatives and structured products. There are currently 26 employees including the founder and MD, Robert Benson, who was previously Global Head of Structured Products and FX Options at HSBC.

In January 2003 the business launched an online database of structured retail products (www.StructuredRetailProducts.com). The website, which now includes a daily news service, provides access to a database of around 400,000 structured investment products across the world.

The site is a subscription service and has more than 2,000 subscribers globally. The client base includes all the major international investment banks plus the world's largest retail financial services companies as well as index providers, consultants and industry regulators such as the FSA.

Due to increasing international and popular demand for the website, a fantastic opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and experienced PHP mySQL System Developer to join the friendly and dynamic IT team in the London office.

Title: PHP mySQL System Developer

Role: To assist the IT team in developing and maintaining the company’s online services including basic server administration

This will involve the following tasks:

• Analyse given technical specifications to provide the best development process for new online tools and services
• Develop new and enhance existing on-line functionalities
• Redesign the Content Management System and live front end
• Maintain the Content Management System and live front end
• Maintain the “in-house” and “live” servers
• Assist the IT team to provide support to staff

Required Skills

The successful candidate must have the following qualities/skills:

• Strong PHP and SQL development skills. AJAX is a plus.
• Object Oriented skills
• Strong mySQL database skills (building and managing)
• Linux admin knowledge
• Experience with Windows software and packages would be useful
• Design skills would be useful but not essential
• Accuracy, paying fine attention to detail
• Good communication skills
• Enthusiasm
• An interest in financial matters would be useful
• A minimum of two years of relevant post-graduate experience is required.
