Job Title: Highways Maintenance Engineer
Location: South London borough
Rate: Up to £25phr Ltd dependant on exp.
Length: 3 months (possibly more)
Hrs: 36 per week
The successful candidate will have experience/ knowledge in the following:
• Current highways legislation
• Current legislation relating to Health & Safety, Highways, Road Traffic Regulation and New Roads & Street Works Act and practices relating to the above.
• Highway maintenance inspection.
• Construction standards & codes of practice relating to highway works & CDM Regulations.
Job Description:
1. Assist in the planning, supervision and coordination of NRSWA activity within the team, ensuring a satisfactory service performance.
2. Undertakes inspections of utilities works to ensure all works comply with the specifications and Health & Safety requirements. Ensure works are undertaken in accordance with deadlines and/or agreed programmes.
3. Monitor utility activity, ensuring targets are met and performance standards are achieved.
4. Monitor utility activity where works are extended or go over the amount of days programmed. Prepare reports and activate appropriate remedy.
5. Monitor invoices for payment.
6. Investigate Public Liability claims, including collating evidence and attendance at Court when required. Prepare reports in the appropriate format.
7. Take maximum advantage of the available training opportunities, to broaden and extend both academic and professional qualification. Pass on the benefit of experience and skill to the advantage of other staff. Maintain appropriate knowledge of current technical standards and legislation relative to the work of the service.
8. Make use of available technology as an aid to efficient working.
9. Maintain professional contact with other Council Officers, representatives of Government Departments, other Boroughs, Statutory Bodies, Public Utilities, the Police, Contractors, members of the public and public groups.
10. Ensure that systems and procedures are undertaken in accordance with appropriate quality assurance documentation.
