What to expect and what not!

Weirside Rangers (www.weirsiderangers.com) were founded in 1919 (as Lensbury FC) and are based in East Molesey (near Hampton Court) within easy access of Esher and Thames Ditton railway stations and the A3.

You must be prepared to travel as away matches can take you all over London from High Barnet in the North, Walthamstow in the East, Croydon in the South and Kew in the West!

We run 5 teams at present in the competitive Southern Amateur League (www.southernamateurleague.co.uk) so we cater for all standards and ages (min age 16). It's NOT semi-pro, you won't get paid - in fact it'll cost you to play to keep the club running. Approx £90 annual subs and then between £7-£11 per match to cover refs, pitches, food, training and drink (students and unemployed have cheaper rates).

However the standard is a very good amateur standard - certainly not Sunday league or pub football! Approx 20-22 league games a season running from Sept til May playing only on Saturdays (at the end of the season there could be midweek games depending on weather / cup runs), and then approx 3 cup competitions including the LFFA trophy, Surrey/Kent Cup and the AFA Cup.

We train on Tuesday evenings in summer on the home pitches (Imber Court, home of the Metropolitan Police FC, http://www.imbercourtsportsclub.co.uk/) and once the darker days arrive we move under floodlights.

Our clubhouse boasts sports facilities, members bar, conference rooms and hosts a number of club events during the year including comedy nights, Race nights, dinners, fancy dress parties etc etc

Every season at the end of May we have a tour to some far flung country (typically in Eastern Europe) for the bank holiday - it's approx £250 for 3 nights and it's fantastic! This year we travelled to Lithuania and played in their National Stadium, where teams such as Scotland and Liverpool have recently played.
