Islington Chamber of Commerce is a small but busy membership organisation, which exists to support the members and promote their business interests in a range of different ways.
The role of Chief Executive is a varied one. Reporting to the Executive Committee, you would be responsible for ensuring that the membership is properly represented in the Borough and is informed about key local initiatives, generating sufficient income to keep the Chamber viable, managing the Chamber on a day-to-day basis, organising events and producing the monthly newsletter. You would also act as line manager to our Business Waste Recycling Project Officer.
This is not a typical desk job. You need to be out and about attending events, talking to Islington businesses, listening to the membership, and making sure that people know about what we offer. At the same time, you also need to spend time on the day-to-day running of the office, managing the organisation's finances, responding to members' enquiries and ensuring the membership database is kept up-to-date.
You should have experience of working with Small to Medium Sized businesses, and of liaising and working in partnership with other organisations. You also have experience of managing budgets and producing financial reports and forecasts. Ideally you are experienced in bidding for funding, whether for projects or grants.
You are confident in dealing with people at all organizational levels, and have strong marketing skills. You have a good knowledge of IT tools such as Word, and Excel. Using the internet for marketing holds no fears for you. You are willing to attend functions and events , some of them outside normal office hours, are self-motivated and happy working on your own. You are an excellent communicator, both orally and in writing.
The contract is for 6 months, in the first instance. Although the job is a full-time one, we are open to the possibility of job-share or other creative approaches. You do need to be willing to be out and about at events and meetings, some of which take place out of normal office hours. You will also be expected to spend time on the day-to-day running of the office.
We are offering a salary of £28,000 p.a (pro-rata for job-share or part-time working), with 4 weeks annual leave (also pro rata). You would report to the President of the Executive Committee. The office will be co-located with the Islington Business Partnership, in the Municipal Offices.
If you have the skills and experience we require, and are looking for challenge and variety, please apply by visting the web site using the link provided.
