Creative Writing Competition
OPEN WRITING COMPETITION
For writers of short stories and poetry
The Write Place students meet at the Mick Jagger Centre in Dartford, Kent. This exciting venue supports a broad range of the arts and our classes are well attended. We cover all forms of creative writing from beginner’s classes through to those who are already published. Speakers regularly visit to update students on the writing world and trips to writing events are frequently attended. Our first writing competition will feature songs from the Rolling Stones and we will enjoy reading every entry.
Write a short story with one of the following titles:
19th nervous breakdown
Goats head soup
Get off my cloud
Prizes: First £75.00, Second £50.00, Third £25.00
Write a poem in any form with the title:
Paint it black
Prizes: £50.00, Second £25.00, Third £15.00
Entry fees: £4.50 per item or three entries for £12.00 (this can be a mix of poetry and short stories). Cheques or postal orders made payable to The Write Place and posted to:
Bobtails, Oliver Road, Swanley, Kent BR8 7DY:
Closing date for entries: 31st October 2009
RULES
Stories should be no longer than 1500 words.
Poems no longer than 30 lines
Work to be typed on one side of each page with pages numbered.
Stories to be double line spaced, poetry single line spaced, on white paper with no distinguishing marks to identify the writer.
Each submission to have a front page, attached by a paperclip, showing name address and contact details of the writer along with the word count and title of entry. Each entry to have a stamped, addressed envelope for results.
Please keep a copy of your work as it will not be returned.
The judges reserve the right to disqualify any entry that does not conform to the rules.
All entries are not to have been previously published or placed in competition.
Copyright to remain with the author although winning entries will be displayed on our website.
Results will be posted on our website www.thewriteplace.org.uk after 30th November 2009.
