A leading London Law Firm has a vacancy within the Property and Casualty Risks practice group for a Claims Handler for the handling of Employers Liability/Public Liability claims.
Their clients take a robust attitude to breaches of policy conditions/warranties and their policy terms and conditions will have to be considered which will involve some insurance law. The assureds are generally small business, i.e. nightclubs, pubs, chip shops, hairdressers and small contractors. The Assureds generally do not have much of an understanding of their legal requirements i.e. risk assessments and will need some guidance through their claims.
The firm will require someone who will be thorough and accurate, with the patience to help the assured through their claim.
The role would be suitable for someone who has an interest and experience in EL/PL work from first advice through to settlement and who has hands-on claims experience (not solely from a broking background). The successful candidate will know of the “6 pack regulations” and will have knowledge of policy issues. The role would suit someone who has experience of supervising a claims team as the role, for the right candidate, will involve managing one of the current claims accounts.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties will include:
· Correspondence, research and liaison with clients, brokers, claimants and claimants representatives
· Instructing Loss Adjusters
· Negotiating settlements
· Investigating claims
· Liaison with Partners and other Lawyers

Position Requirements
Knowledge and experience of Employers’ Liability/Public Liability insurance claims is essential
Experience of insurance work would be desirable.
Supervisory or experience managing a team is highly desirable

Good interpersonal skills
Effective communicator
Confident and robust
Able to work with minimum supervision

We would expect a lawyer with the given PQE to have gained the level of experience required, but this does not preclude applications from those with more or less PQE.
