Conservation Holidays in the South East
Did you know that within a couple of hours of Central London there are wild ponies, rare lowland heaths with skylarks and nightjars, moss covered alder woods where you might expect to see the odd hobbit peering from behind the trees, as well as beautiful ancient woodlands with trees over 500 years old?
BTCV runs weekend holidays to these places, taking groups of volunteers from our office in Kings Cross on a Friday night and returning on Sunday evening. We carry out practical conservation tasks, ranging from birch clearance on teh heath, coppicing and rhododendron clearance in ancient woodlands and even restoring medieval fish ponds.
Our weekends are open to anyone over the age of 16. Accommodation varies from simple ones in village halls to youth hostels in shared bunk rooms. The weekends cost between £60 and £80 depending on standard of accommodation, and this includes transport from Kings Cross, all food and accommodation for the weekend. We provide all tools and equipment required for the weekend.
