My Client Primary SEN School in the Lewisham area is looking for a strong practitioner to work with a small class of Year 4 children on the Autistic Spectrum. The job will be for 2 terms, from January 2010. There is a strong possibility that the position will become a permanent role from August 1st.

The school has been providing an exciting, successful and innovative provision for SEN students for a number of years. The Head is very supportive of both staff and pupils. The post would be suitable for someone who is highly motivated and committed to working with pupils with autism.

There are 8 children in the class. All work from P Levels 3 to 7 of the National Curriculum. Two of the children are non verbal and one has complex medical needs. There are three permanent teaching assistants in the class.

The Head is keen for the successful candidate to also take on a responsibility for a curriculum area. The actual area has not been decided – She is quite flexible with this and will utilise the skills of the new teacher.

The Head ideally would like applicants with at least a year’s experience in a Primary SEN School, who have worked with PECs. But she will look at strong practitioners from the mainstream. You will need a CRB issued in the last 12 months.
